The civil society organisation Contra Margum and the Library “Vuk Karadžić” are launching the ZelenGrad project, which is also part of the European programme The Europe Challenge.
The Europe Challenge is an annual initiative of the European Cultural Foundation that supports collaboration between libraries and local communities across Europe in addressing important social, digital, and environmental challenges together.
We are proud to say that ZelenGrad is the only selected project from Serbia, and that through The Europe Challenge we will share our experiences and results with colleagues from more than 60 European countries participating in the programme.
We imagine ZelenGrad as a city of the future — greener, more creative, more connected, and more just — and we will build it together with children, parents, and all citizens who wish to join us.
We invite you to join us with your children, grandchildren, friends, and neighbours to plant, draw, and create the very first elements of ZelenGrad together.
We also warmly invite people who are reading about ZelenGrad to share their own ideas with us and help enrich the programme. Maybe you come from a completely different field and can offer a new perspective on the challenges and possibilities in our city. We believe that the best ideas often emerge when different experiences, professions, generations, and ways of thinking meet.
We especially welcome suggestions from people outside Serbia as well. Visitors from other countries who discover our website are invited to send us their thoughts, examples, and inspirations from their own communities.
At the same time, ZelenGrad is not only a local programme — it is also a methodology that can be adapted and shared. We are open to invitations from schools, organisations, libraries, municipalities, and city halls that would like to learn more about our approach. Through workshops, presentations, and “teach the teacher” formats, we can share our experiences and adapt the programme to different local needs and communities.
ZelenGrad grows through collaboration, exchange, and participation — and everyone is welcome to become part of it.
