For the upcoming International Book Giving Day, a book giving action and workshop called “Green Bookmark” were held within ZelenGrad project, organised by “Contra Margum” Association and “Vuk Karadžić” Library on 13th February 2026 in the Kovin library. The aim of the initiative is fostering the love of books (especially in children), extending the lifespan of the books by exchange and gifting and increasing awareness of sustainalbility and reusing.
A total of 314 titles were collected, 82 of which will be donated to “Vuk Karadžić” Library, 24 of them will form a small “library” in Mali Park café in Kovin, while the rest will be donated to the libraries of Special Hospital for Psychiatric Diseases and primary and secondary schools in our town.
On the same day a workshop took place where the pupils of “Desanka Maksimović” Primary School Kovin used all their imagination and dedication to make boomarks from recycled materials, thus sending symbolic messages to future readers. The bookmark is placed inside a gifted book or taken home as a reminder of sustainable reading.
